Good news for Obama: New CNN poll shows viewers liked speech

A post-speech CNN poll came up with some positive findings for President Obama:

• 77 percent had a very positive or somewhat positive reaction to his health-care speech (56 percent were “very positive”)
• 70 percent said the policies Obama is proposing will move the country in the right direction.
• 67 percent said they favored Obama’s plan to reform health care. 29 percent oppose it.
• Asked how likely it is that Congress will pass most of his proposals, 75 percent said it was “very likely” or “somewhat likely.”
• Finally, asked how clearly Obama laid out his plan, 72 percent said he “clearly” stated his goals.

Some notes on the poll:

427 adults who watched the speech were surveyed. 18% of the respondents who participated in the survey identified themselves as Republicans, 45% identified themselves as Democrats, and 37% identified themselves as Independents.

Margin of error: 5 percent.

This “poll” was touted by both CNN and MSNBC (surprise, surprise). PLEASE, everyone, if you get nothing else from this, understand that you cannot trust the mainstream media anymore. You have to read the fine print and take everything with a grain of salt. It’s unfortunate, but true. Sadly, there are only a minute number of real journalists left in this country.

I honestly don’t have any strong feelings regarding Warren Buffett. The only thing I don’t understand is how he could have supported Barack Obama for president in good conscience since he’s supposedly some genius financial guy – but I digress. Apparently, the feeling is mutual because President Obama has said that he would look to Buffett in regards to the economy, blah, blah, blah.

So, my point is this: Shouldn’t Obama take Buffett’s advice? Can’t we take that piece of advice one tiny step further and say, “Never invest in anything you don’t understand”? Nevermind all of the hullabaloo over healthcare that you’ve heard thus far. I have another question for you. Can we all agree that no matter what side of the debate you’re on, none of us truly understands what is in the healthcare bill or how it’s going to affect our country? So, if no one actually fully comprehends this thing, then why is it being pushed so hard? Why are we even fighting about it? Don’t we have more questions than answers? Even our elected representatives don’t understand it and they wrote the thing!

If looks could cause someone to spontaneously burst into a giant ball of flames, Rep. Joe Wilson would be a pile of ashes right now! Woo! Biden has his typical dimwitted expression, Pelosi looks stunned that someone had the gall to interrupt her savior, and Obama looks like he’s going to get some of his Chicago boys to give Wilson a pair of concrete boots. What a classic, classic moment. While I enjoyed the moment, strictly on an entertainment level, it was totally uncalled for. While I disagree with just about every word that comes out of President Obama’s mouth, I do respect the office. HOWEVER, I wonder how much outrage there would have been if it was Bush that had been heckled . . .

Here is the updated boycott list. Best Buy and Walmart are the newest additions. They had been on the “watch list” because they had both stated that they just weren’t going to advertise on an political shows, but they’ve been caught advertising on Olbermann (surprise, surprise), which I find particularly funny because the people who watch him are the ones trying to put companies like theirs out of business. Wow, that’s some management you’ve got going on there, Walmart.

I wrote both Best Buy and Walmart to express my extreme displeasure with their advertising choices. Walmart will, by far, be the most difficult of all the companies to boycott (I thought General Mills was tough!). I do all of my grocery shopping at Walmart because they are generally so much cheaper than all the other grocery stores, but this is where I draw the line. I’ve always defended Walmart, but not any longer. I will be shopping at Fry’s unless/until Walmart reverses its decision.

Of course, I urge everyone to follow my lead. I’m not sure if I’ve blogged about my reasoning before, but it’s so NOT about whether or not you agree with Glenn Beck or even like him. It’s about freedom of speech. There are all kinds of political news personalities out there who say all kinds of things that offend all kinds of people. Why is Beck being targeted? One advertiser said it was because Beck said Nancy Pelosi should be poisoned. Considering I watch every television show and listen to every radio show, this revelation surprised me. Then, I watched the purported video “proof”: http://www.defendglenn.com/sargento-worst-company-in-the-world.html (scroll down a little bit). Really? Beck said Pelosi should be poisoned? Pretty sure it was a joke and he didn’t even come close to saying she should be poisoned. Meanwhile, the group that’s pushing this whole Beck boycott thing is Color of Change, which you may recall is the radical group that Van Jones, the recently resigned “special advisor” to the president, helped create. If the advertisers decide not to advertise on ANY political shows, that is fine, but this pick-and-choose-based-on-ideology thing doesn’t cut it.

This is America. If you truly believe in free speech, you defend the right of those who offend you the most.

Whether you are a liberal, a conservative, or something in between, you must always check yourself. Ensure that you hold to your principles no matter who is in charge. I am constantly asking myself these questions – and so should you.

I just had to say something about what Vader- er, I mean Cheney – has been saying. I agree with much of what Cheney says. HOWEVER, I can’t trust him – especially on this. First, he’s a politician, so you can NEVER fully trust him. Second, he could lose his a*% on this whole CIA thing. And, although I pretty much despise everything President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress have done since January, I like the unspoken respect that all U.S. presidents are generally have for one another (yes, I know he’s “only” a former vice president, but still). “W”, for the most part, has kept quiet on the Obama Administration and I appreciate that. I believe Cheney should follow suit.
