Thomas Sowell, for those of you unfamiliar, is a black economist and author. I love him. Anway, he was on Glenn Beck’s television show about a week ago and they were discussing that racist Supreme Court judge nominee, Sonia Sotomayor. They were talking about this quote (which she has stated about 3 or four times, so this is far from an isolated incident, by the way): “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.” Sowell responded, “Racism doesn’t have a good track record. It’s been tried out a long time and you’d think by now we’d want to put an end to it instead of putting it under new management.” HILARIOUS and so true! Just imagine what would happen if a white male Supreme Court nominee had made the following statement, “I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina female who hasn’t lived that life.” Think about that. Wouldn’t the entire country proclaim from the rooftops that this man was a racist? The answer, of course, is yes. So, why is it okay when the roles are reversed? The only logical and acceptable answer is that it’s not okay and it makes now difference whether a “minority” is saying the words or not. The intention behind the words is racist. Remember Sowell’s wise words.
That’s all.
